Take-Two Plans Strategic Release Timing for Major Game Titles

Take-Two Interactive has confirmed its approach to timing the release of major game titles, specifically Borderlands 4 and Grand Theft Auto 6, to enhance player experience. The company aims to ensure that consumers have ample time to engage with each game before moving on to the next.

Borderlands 4 is set for release on September 23, 2025, following its announcement during Sony’s State of Play 2025 broadcast. This announcement raises questions about the timing of GTA 6, which is also slated for a fall 2025 release. With Borderlands 4 scheduled for September, it is unlikely that both games will launch in the same month.

Take-Two has acknowledged the risk of releasing major titles too close together, which could lead to cannibalization of sales. The company plans to avoid this by spacing out releases to respect players‘ need for time to fully experience each game. Potential release windows for GTA 6 now include October, November, or December 2025.

Additionally, Mafia: The Old Country is expected to launch in the summer of 2025, further complicating the release schedule for Take-Two’s major titles. The company remains optimistic that the timing of its releases will not negatively impact sales.

Despite the mixed reception of the recent Borderlands movie, Take-Two maintains confidence in the franchise’s strength and its upcoming release. The company believes that the brand’s popularity remains intact and anticipates positive outcomes for Borderlands 4.
