Apple Partners with Alibaba for AI Features in Chinese iPhones

Apple has announced a partnership with Alibaba to integrate generative AI technology into its iPhones specifically for the Chinese market. This collaboration aims to enhance the artificial intelligence capabilities of Apple devices sold in China.

Joe Tsai, Chairman of Alibaba Group, confirmed the partnership during the World Governments Summit in Dubai. Apple considered various Chinese companies for this collaboration before ultimately selecting Alibaba.

Currently, Apple Intelligence features are unavailable in China, even for users who purchased their iPhones abroad. The country’s stringent regulations on AI require large language models to obtain approval for commercial use. Additionally, companies providing generative AI services must monitor and remove illegal content.

Reports indicate that Apple and Alibaba have already submitted their planned AI features to regulatory authorities for approval. Previously, Apple explored partnerships with other Chinese firms, including Baidu, Tencent, and DeepSeek, but found their offerings inadequate in meeting Apple’s standards.
