Siri’s AI Upgrade Faces Potential Delay to iOS 18.5

Apple’s anticipated AI upgrade for Siri may be delayed, with reports suggesting it could push back to iOS 18.5, expected in May 2025. Initial plans aimed for the upgrade’s release in iOS 18.4, rumored for April 2025, but engineering challenges and software bugs have surfaced.

According to sources, the revamped Siri was set to enhance the assistant’s capabilities through Apple Intelligence. However, implementation issues have hindered progress. Some complex features, including the ability to search emails and messages for specific information, are reportedly not functioning reliably.

Engineers at Apple are under pressure to resolve these issues. While there may be minor updates introduced in iOS 18.4, the full suite of new AI features might not arrive until the subsequent release. Alternatively, Apple could opt to include these features in iOS 18.4 but disable them by default, allowing users to enable them at their discretion.

These AI enhancements include improved contextual awareness and deeper app integration, promising a more personalized user experience. However, as the timeline extends, user patience is wearing thin. Apple fans have been eagerly awaiting these features since their announcement at WWDC 2024.

The delay could reinforce perceptions of Apple lagging in the AI sector compared to competitors. While the company did not commit to specific timelines for all features, the recent developments have raised concerns about the rollout of the promised functionalities.
