Amazon Delays Alexa AI Upgrade Launch Until March 2025

Amazon plans to unveil its AI upgrades for Alexa at an event on February 26, 2025. However, the launch of the new version may be postponed until March 31, according to reports from the Washington Post.

An anonymous Amazon employee indicated that the delay is due to the need to address issues with the assistant providing incorrect answers during testing. Originally, Amazon aimed to release the upgraded Alexa this month.

This delay has raised concerns among investors, especially given the significant capital investments required for AI technology. Companies often face challenges in turning a profit from AI advancements.

Amazon anticipates that an enhanced version of Alexa could boost sales of Echo devices and other smart gadgets. Most functions of Alexa will remain free, while the advanced features may be available only to subscribers.

The upcoming version of Alexa is expected to exhibit more advanced capabilities, such as developing a unique personality and recalling past conversations. It may also handle complex tasks like ordering food or booking transportation.

Other tech companies have encountered similar issues with AI providing erroneous information. For instance, Apple faced scrutiny over its Notification Summaries, which misinterpreted messages and news reports.

While an upgraded Alexa could enhance the smart home experience, these delays highlight the ongoing challenges in fully implementing AI technology.
