Delays Expected for Siri and Alexa Upgrades Due to AI Issues

Apple’s anticipated overhaul for Siri faces significant delays due to engineering challenges and software bugs. This setback could limit the rollout of three major enhancements originally promised last June.

The planned upgrades include:

  • Utilizing customer data to improve response accuracy.
  • Enhanced app control capabilities.
  • Contextual awareness based on the current screen content.

These features aim to create a more versatile Siri that effectively interacts with user information. For instance, users would be able to retrieve files or songs discussed in text messages. However, internal testing has revealed inconsistencies in these functionalities.

In parallel, Amazon is also experiencing delays with its AI-enhanced version of Alexa. Initially expected to launch this month, the release has now been pushed to March 31 or later. This delay comes as Amazon strives to introduce a more conversational and intelligent version of its digital assistant, which is crucial in light of competition from AI models like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

New features for Alexa may include adopting a personality, recalling past conversations, and ordering services like takeout. However, issues with providing accurate responses have hindered progress. As Alexa has been a staple product for a decade, Amazon is cautious about maintaining customer trust by ensuring reliability before the launch.
