Disney Pauses Development on Multiple Marvel Streaming Series

Disney has paused development on three Marvel streaming series: Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror, Inc.. This decision comes as the studio reassesses its approach to television production.

Originally, Nova was intended for a big-screen adaptation. However, plans shifted towards a streaming series under Marvel Television. The current status of the Nova project is now on indefinite hold, along with the other two titles, as part of a broader strategy change within Marvel.

While none of the shows were officially greenlit, Deadline reported that the studio has paused their development, indicating potential future opportunities for these series. Writers had been actively working on the projects, particularly Nova, which had progressed the furthest.

Nova aimed to explore the Nova Corps storyline seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while Strange Academy was set to expand on the world of Doctor Strange, featuring a school for gifted young individuals in New Orleans. Terror, Inc. would have followed the antihero from the 1992 comic series.

This shift reflects Marvel’s evolving strategy in producing television content. The studio is moving away from announcing a full slate of projects, focusing instead on quality over quantity. This change aligns with recent efforts to revamp existing projects, such as Daredevil: Born Again, which is set to release on March 4, 2025.
