Riot Games has announced a shift in the playtest schedule for its upcoming fighting game, 2XKO. Originally slated for a significant playtest in March, the studio will now conduct a smaller test as they work to enhance the game’s infrastructure for a larger event later this year.
This decision follows a wave of speculation surrounding the cancellation of the March playtest, which prompted the development team to clarify the situation. 2XKO, a spin-off of the popular League of Legends franchise, aims to deliver a unique gameplay experience.
New Features and Changes
Despite the downsized playtest, players can anticipate some exciting new features. One notable change includes the removal of the Pulse Fuse, which previously enabled beginner-friendly autocombos. Instead, players will have the option to toggle autocombo functionality in the game’s settings, allowing for greater customization and strategy.
Additionally, a new Fuse called Sidekick is set to debut. This feature alters the traditional tag mechanics found in Riot’s tag-based fighters. With Sidekick, the point character will gain bonus health, but they will not be able to swap with the assist character. This design aims to foster a support role that aligns with League of Legends‘ gameplay, facilitating a learning environment for new players.
Future Playtests
2XKO is scheduled for a free-to-play release in 2025, although an exact date has yet to be confirmed. Players had their first hands-on experience during the Alpha Lab playtest in August 2024, which lasted just over a week. Those interested in participating in future playtests can sign up on the official 2XKO website.
