The US Space Force has released a rare image captured by the X-37B space plane during its ongoing seventh mission, which began in December 2023. The photo showcases Earth from orbit along with a portion of the craft itself.
The X-37B, a Boeing-made vehicle, previously set an endurance record by spending 908 days in space during its last mission, which concluded in 2022. Details about the current mission remain limited, but the Space Force confirmed that it includes a significant milestone.
Aerobraking Maneuver
For the first time, the X-37B has successfully performed a maneuver known as aerobraking. This technique allows the spacecraft to change its orbit using less fuel by taking advantage of the drag from Earth’s atmosphere. The Space Force reported that the vehicle has begun this process and has executed several innovative maneuvers to achieve its orbital adjustments.
As of now, the duration of this mission is still uncertain, leaving enthusiasts and experts alike curious about the X-37B’s future activities in space.
