Amazon has announced the upcoming launch of Alexa+, an advanced version of its digital assistant, at the 2025 Devices event. This next-generation assistant aims to enhance user interaction through improved conversational abilities and smarter integration with Amazon services.
Enhanced Conversational Skills
Alexa+ features a new voice that sounds more natural and can detect tone and mood, allowing it to respond appropriately. Users only need to say „Alexa“ once to activate the assistant, which can then follow the conversation contextually. This capability enables Alexa+ to remember previous parts of a dialogue, making interactions feel more fluid.
Smart Integration with Services
One of the standout features demonstrated was Alexa+’s ability to interact seamlessly with various Amazon services. For instance, users can jump to specific scenes in Prime Video by mentioning an actor or character’s name, eliminating the need for manual navigation. Similar functionality extends to Ring footage, allowing users to search clips effectively.
Collaboration with Third-Party Apps
Amazon plans to extend Alexa+’s capabilities to third-party applications. New tools will enable integrations with services like Uber, Grubhub, and OpenTable. In a demo, Alexa+ successfully made a restaurant reservation and scheduled a ride, showcasing its potential for practical real-world applications.
Availability and Pricing
Alexa+ will be included with an Amazon Prime subscription, which costs $15 per month. Alternatively, users can access the assistant for a standalone fee of $20 per month. Early access to Alexa+ is set to begin next month, with a phased rollout that will initially target devices with screens, such as the Echo Show series.
