Indie studio Draknek & Friends has introduced a novel pricing model for its puzzle game, A Good Snowman Is Hard to Build. The price now fluctuates based on the temperature in London, providing a unique twist to how players purchase the game.
Originally released in 2015, this game celebrates its 10th anniversary with a new pricing strategy dubbed „pay what the temperature is.“ The price on Itch.io adjusts hourly according to the current temperature in degrees Celsius. For instance, if the temperature is 8.3 degrees Celsius, the game costs $8.30.
This model results in lower prices during colder months and higher prices in warmer weather, aligning with the game’s winter theme. If temperatures drop to 0 degrees Celsius or below, players can download the game for free.
Due to restrictions on platforms like Steam, this pricing scheme remains exclusive to the Itch.io storefront. The developers humorously note that players can opt to pay in Fahrenheit or Kelvin using Itch.io’s „pay what you want“ feature, which results in significantly higher prices.
Draknek & Friends is also developing a new game titled The Electrifying Incident, featuring the same character from A Good Snowman Is Hard to Build.
