EA Opens Command & Conquer Source Code for Community Modding

EA has released the full source code for four classic Command & Conquer titles, enhancing modding opportunities for the gaming community. The games include the original Command & Conquer (Tiberian Dawn), C&C Red Alert, C&C Renegade, and C&C Generals along with its expansion, Zero Hour.

This release, available on EA’s GitHub page under a GPL license, allows users to run, study, share, and modify the software. The initiative follows a collaboration with community creator Luke „CCHyper“ Feenan, who worked on restoring the source code archives to a buildable state.

In addition to the source code, EA has introduced Steam Workshop support for several titles, including C&C Renegade, C&C Generals, C&C 3 Tiberium Wars, and others. This support enables fans to publish maps directly through the Mission Editor and World Builder tools.

EA also released a C&C Modding Support Pack, which contains essential files for modders working with games using the SAGE engine. Furthermore, the company has provided half an hour of archive footage showcasing development insights from Renegade and Generals, including tech demos and concept videos.

This move is seen as a significant step in preserving gaming history and supporting fan communities dedicated to keeping these classic titles alive.
