Honor Commits to Seven Years of Software Updates for Flagship Devices

Honor has announced its commitment to provide seven years of Android OS and security updates for its latest Magic series devices, including the Honor Magic 7 Pro. This initiative aligns the company with major competitors such as Apple, Samsung, and Google, who also offer similar update durations for their flagship smartphones.

Previously, Honor devices typically received five years of updates. The newly launched Magic 7 Pro becomes the first model to benefit from this extended support, while older models like the Honor Magic 6 Pro and Honor Magic V3 will continue under the original five-year commitment.

This move reflects Honor’s confidence in the longevity of its smartphone hardware and aligns with sustainability goals, adhering to the EU’s Circular Economy and Ecodesign regulations. The company aims to enhance the value of its devices by ensuring they remain up-to-date and secure for an extended period.

While the necessity of seven years of updates is debatable, the trend set by Apple and followed by other brands indicates a growing expectation for longer support. In contrast, OnePlus has committed to four years of OS updates and six years of security patches for its flagship device, the OnePlus 13, suggesting that the industry is still divided on the issue of update longevity.

As technology evolves, the longevity of devices will depend not only on software support but also on the hardware capabilities. The Honor Magic 7 Pro, equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and 12GB of RAM, is designed to provide a robust user experience over time.
