Steam Breaks Record with Over 40 Million Concurrent Players Amid Monster Hunter Wilds Launch

Steam has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 40 million concurrent players for the first time. This record was set over the weekend, coinciding with the highly anticipated launch of Monster Hunter Wilds on February 28.

The platform recorded 40,270,997 simultaneous players, breaking its previous record of 39.9 million established in February 2025. Since May 2024, Steam has consistently broken its concurrent user record, with the peak rising from 35.5 million to over 40 million in just six months.

While the total number includes idle users, the count of players actively engaged in games also saw a rise, jumping from 12.5 million to 12.8 million. This surge in player activity is largely attributed to the launch of Monster Hunter Wilds, which reached a peak of 1.38 million concurrent players within 24 hours of its release.

Other titles like Counter-Strike 2, PUBG, and Dota 2 also recorded impressive user peaks, with Counter-Strike 2 hitting 1.7 million players. However, despite the excitement, Monster Hunter Wilds has received a ‚mixed‘ user review rating on Steam, prompting Capcom to address performance issues.

Looking ahead, Capcom has announced early details for Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 1, which will introduce an endgame social hub for players. For those starting their adventure, guides on weapon types and gameplay strategies are available to enhance the experience.
