TSMC Announces $100 Billion Investment in US Semiconductor Manufacturing

TSMC, the world’s leading semiconductor manufacturer, is set to invest an additional $100 billion in semiconductor manufacturing in the United States over the next four years. This investment aims to enhance advanced semiconductor production and support the growing demand for technology.

Investment Details

The new funding will expand TSMC’s existing plans, which initially included a $40 billion investment to build chip-making facilities in Arizona. This amount was later increased to $65 billion after TSMC received $6.6 billion in grants as part of the CHIPS Act under the Biden administration.

Facilities and Job Creation

The investment will enable the construction of:

  • Three additional fabrication plants
  • Two advanced packaging facilities
  • A major research and development center

TSMC’s facilities are expected to manufacture chips for artificial intelligence and other advanced applications, catering to major clients such as Apple, NVIDIA, AMD, Broadcom, and Qualcomm.

Economic Impact

This expansion is projected to generate 40,000 construction jobs over the next four years and create tens of thousands of high-paying, high-tech jobs in advanced chip manufacturing and research and development.
