Volvo Launches ES90 EV Featuring Advanced 800-Volt Charging Technology

Volvo has launched the ES90, its latest fully electric vehicle, which is based on the S60 sedan. This model combines characteristics of a sedan and an SUV, featuring a spacious interior and higher ground clearance.

The ES90 is notable for being the first Volvo EV equipped with an 800-volt charging system. This technology enables faster charging times and utilizes lighter components, potentially enhancing the vehicle’s range and acceleration. The car is expected to achieve a driving range of 700 kilometers (approximately 435 miles), although official EPA ratings may vary.

When connected to a 350 kW fast charger, the ES90 can gain 300 kilometers (186 miles) of range in just 10 minutes. Its 106 kWh battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 20 minutes. All variants of the ES90 have a top speed of 112 mph, with the Twin Motor Performance version accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds.

This model is built on Volvo’s Superset tech stack, which standardizes hardware and software across its electric vehicle lineup. The ES90 is also the first to utilize a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin configuration, enhancing its computing capacity.

Design features include a slightly raised ride height, Thor’s Hammer headlights, and C-shaped LED rear lamps. The vehicle is equipped with a comprehensive array of sensors for active safety, including one lidar, five radars, seven cameras, and twelve ultrasonic sensors.

Inside, the ES90 offers flexible seating with individually foldable rear seats, and an optional panoramic roof with 99.9 percent UV protection. Buyers can also select an electrochromic roof that adjusts for glare at the touch of a button. The infotainment system is accessible via a 14.5-inch center display, integrating Google apps like Maps and Assistant.

Currently, interested buyers can order the ES90 in several European countries, including Austria, Belgium, and Germany. Additional markets will see the vehicle’s release later in 2026.
