Activision’s Mobile Game Ads Criticized for AI-Generated Art

Activision faces backlash as players identify possible AI-generated assets in advertisements for four unconfirmed mobile games. These games include Guitar Hero Mobile, Call of Duty: Sniper, Call of Duty: Zombies Defender, and Crash Bandicoot Brawl.

Reports indicate that the ads are circulating on Facebook and Instagram, directing users to a survey to provide feedback on the unreleased titles. The controversy escalated after Activision acknowledged using AI-generated content in Black Ops 6.

Players have criticized the ads for featuring what appears to be poorly designed characters and instruments, which they attribute to AI art characteristics such as blurriness and odd shapes. In particular, the Guitar Hero Mobile ad has drawn significant ire due to its strange visual elements.

While Guitar Hero Mobile is the only title officially recognized by Activision, the other games lack confirmation and dedicated pages on the company’s website. However, fans discovered a page for Guitar Hero Mobile on Geeklab, a platform for testing player interest before app releases.

Despite the lack of official announcements for the other titles, ads for all four games are reportedly being promoted across social media. The art on the Geeklab page also appears to include AI-generated elements, further fueling player frustration.

Activision has not responded to inquiries regarding the advertisements or the reported use of AI-generated assets.
