Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim will be available on Max starting Friday, February 28, 2025. This anime film, directed by Kenji Kamiyama, is set nearly 200 years before the events of the original film trilogy.
The film follows Héra, the daughter of Rohan’s king Helm Hammerhand, as she navigates a war sparked by her father’s actions against the Dunlendings. The film features voice performances from Gaia Wise and Brian Cox.
Despite its theatrical release two months ago, which garnered only $20 million worldwide, the film will soon be accessible on Warner Bros.‘ streaming service. Following its digital release, it has also been released on Blu-Ray and DVD.
Reviews for the film have been mixed, with some praising its scale but critiquing its animation and story. The narrative is based on the appendices of J.R.R. Tolkien’s works.
Fans of the franchise can also look forward to the upcoming third season of Rings of Power on Prime Video and a Gollum spinoff film currently in development.
