Apple’s Siri Upgrade Delayed Until 2027, Experts Predict

Apple’s efforts to enhance Siri with advanced AI capabilities may face significant delays. According to insights from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, some employees in Apple’s AI department believe a fully modernized, conversational version of Siri won’t be available until 2027 at the earliest.

The company plans to introduce an LLM-powered Siri upgrade in iOS 18.5. However, this version will operate as a separate model from the existing Siri, which has been criticized for not functioning as smoothly as desired.

Gurman reports that the envisioned modern Siri would integrate both basic functionalities, such as setting timers, and advanced AI features that can perform tasks across multiple applications by utilizing contextual information. Originally, Apple aimed to launch this unified Siri architecture in iOS 19.4, but delays have pushed back its unveiling, which typically occurs during the annual WWDC in June.

Challenges in Apple’s AI development include difficulties in securing necessary AI training hardware and issues within the department, including ineffective leadership and employee turnover. These hurdles come as competitors in the AI space continue to advance their technologies.
