DC’s Clayface Film Gains Momentum with Horror Director at Helm

A new chapter in the DC cinematic universe is unfolding with the announcement of a film centered around the character Clayface. Reports indicate that director James Watkins, known for his work on the horror film „Speak No Evil,“ will lead the project.

The film will be based on a script by Mike Flanagan, recognized for his acclaimed series like „The Haunting of Hill House“ and films such as „Doctor Sleep.“ Warner Bros. has officially greenlit the project, marking a significant step in its development.

Clayface, a character with a rich history in the comics, first appeared in 1940 as Basil Karlo, a struggling actor turned serial killer. Over the years, various incarnations of Clayface have emerged, with the most recognizable version being a sentient mass capable of transforming into others, popularized by „Batman: The Animated Series.“

While there’s no confirmation of Batman’s appearance in this film, Watkins’ horror background suggests a unique approach that may not require the Caped Crusader’s involvement. The film could potentially be the first horror entry in the DC lineup, following the recent successes of projects like „The Penguin“ and „Creature Commandos.“

With filming set to commence later this year, „Clayface“ is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 11, 2026. The collaboration between Watkins and Flanagan raises expectations for a compelling narrative that blends horror with emotional depth.
