Blizzard has officially announced that the second expansion for Diablo 4 will not be released until 2026. This information was disclosed by Rod Fergusson, the general manager of the Diablo franchise, during a DICE panel focused on the game’s development as a live-service title.
While specific details regarding the launch window in 2026 remain scarce, Blizzard had previously indicated plans for annual expansions. However, it appears this schedule will not apply in 2025.
In 2023, Fergusson mentioned that two expansions were already in development for Diablo 4. The delay means that when the second expansion is finally launched, it will mark the first time any game in the franchise has received more than one expansion. Previously, Diablo 3 featured a major expansion, Reaper of Souls, along with a smaller DLC that introduced the Necromancer class.
It remains possible that Blizzard may still adhere to its annual release strategy by offering a smaller DLC in 2025, potentially introducing a new class without a new region. For now, fans of Diablo 4 can expect only seasonal updates throughout 2025.
The first major expansion, Vessel of Hatred, was released in October 2024, adding a new region and class, along with additional loot and end-game content. Currently, Season 7 is active, featuring new content inspired by Diablo 3, including Witch Doctor powers and seasonal activities centered around the Tree of Whispers.
