DOGE Technologists Join CISA, Raising Security Concerns

Edward Coristine, a 19-year-old engineer known as „Big Balls,“ and 38-year-old software engineer Kyle Schutt have joined the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) as staff members. Both are associated with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk.

Coristine has previously interned at Neuralink and has worked with various federal agencies since January. His role at CISA is listed as a senior advisor. Schutt also has experience with the General Services Administration (GSA) and previously contributed to the launch of the Republican fundraising platform WinRed.

CISA is responsible for defending federal civilian networks and collaborates with critical infrastructure owners nationwide. The agency handles sensitive information related to software vulnerabilities and network security assessments.

Concerns arise regarding the potential access Coristine may have to sensitive data at CISA, especially given his past connections to organizations with questionable reputations. Reports indicate that Coristine has links to a cybercriminal community and has faced allegations of leaking internal documents in prior roles.

As CISA continues to work with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National Security Agency to address cybersecurity threats, the appointments of Coristine and Schutt may raise alarms about the agency’s security protocols.
