Epic Games Takes Legal Action Against Player for Account Theft

Epic Games has initiated a lawsuit against player Isaac Strock, accusing him of stealing and selling hundreds of Fortnite accounts. The legal action, filed in an Illinois court on February 27, 2025, is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to combat cheating within the game.

The 21-page lawsuit outlines how Strock allegedly employed social engineering tactics to gain unauthorized access to various Fortnite accounts. He reportedly contacted Epic’s support team under false pretenses, attempting to change the email address associated with accounts that did not belong to him. In several instances, he provided information typically known only to the legitimate account owners.

Strock allegedly utilized data breaches and the dark web to acquire email addresses and passwords, allowing him to log into these accounts. The lawsuit claims he sold one account on September 12, 2024, for approximately $425 in Bitcoin, which included valuable in-game items such as skins and V-Bucks, Fortnite’s currency.

According to Epic Games, Strock’s activities have caused significant harm to both the company and the Fortnite community. Players who have invested time and money into their accounts have found themselves locked out due to Strock’s actions. The lawsuit also highlights that Strock has boasted about his profits from these illegal activities online.

Epic Games has a strict policy against account selling and item transfers, emphasizing that such practices undermine the game’s integrity. Currently, numerous Fortnite accounts are for sale on third-party marketplaces, with prices ranging from $5 to several thousand dollars, depending on the rarity of the items involved.

Strock has yet to respond to the lawsuit. This case is one of several legal actions Epic Games is pursuing to maintain fair play within Fortnite, including another lawsuit against a competitor accused of using cheating software in tournaments.
