Xbox has officially announced that the release of Fable has been delayed to 2026. This decision comes as Xbox Game Studios lead Craig Duncan stated that Playground Games requires additional time for development.
The announcement was made during the latest episode of the Xbox Podcast, where Duncan confirmed that the game would not meet its previously planned 2025 launch window. He expressed confidence in Playground Games‘ capabilities and highlighted the studio’s legacy with the Forza Horizon series.
Alongside the delay, new pre-alpha gameplay footage was revealed, showcasing various aspects of the game. The clips feature the playable character navigating through lush forests, riding horses, and engaging in combat against various enemies, including a werewolf.
Fable marks the fourth installment in the franchise, first announced in 2020. After a period of silence, the game was reintroduced at the Xbox Games Showcase in 2023, accompanied by a comedic trailer. A subsequent cinematic trailer provided further insights into the game’s characters and fantasy setting.
