Apple has launched the first beta of the iOS 18.4 update, featuring a new tool called Priority Notifications. This functionality utilizes artificial intelligence to identify and highlight notifications of greater importance, allowing users to quickly discern what requires their attention.
When enabled, Priority Notifications appear at the top of the notification stack. The specifics of how the AI determines priority remain unclear, but it appears to analyze message content to assess urgency. For instance, a simple text message may not trigger an alert, while one conveying urgency will.
Currently, it seems that Apple is focusing on notifications from communication apps and time-sensitive alerts from various applications, such as delivery updates. This feature is part of the initial developer beta and will undergo further testing before a public release.
How to Enable Priority Notifications
To activate Priority Notifications, follow these steps:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and tap on Notifications.
- Locate the option labeled Prioritize Notification and toggle it on.
Note that this feature requires a device with at least 8GB of RAM. Currently, it is available only on the iPhone 15 Pro models and the iPhone 16 series. Users must also ensure that Apple Intelligence is enabled on their devices through the Apple Intelligence & Siri settings.
