iPhone 16e: Enhanced Repairability with USB-C Charging Port

iFixit has conducted a detailed teardown of the newly released iPhone 16e, highlighting its improved repairability features. This model, which debuted last month, now includes a repairable USB-C charging port, a significant upgrade compared to previous iPhone models.

The iPhone 16e received a provisional rating of 7/10 from iFixit, due to its new repair guide for the USB-C port and an easy-release battery adhesive. This change aligns with recent Right to Repair laws in states like Colorado and Oregon, making it easier for users to repair their devices without needing to visit an Apple store.

Repairing the charging port, however, remains a complex task. Users must first remove several components, including the back glass, selfie camera, top earpiece speaker, and battery, before accessing the logic board to replace the port. Despite the challenges, the new repair guide aims to assist users through the process.

Additionally, the iPhone 16e features the same electrically released battery adhesive found in other iPhone 16 models, replacing the less effective stretch-release adhesive. This model also marks the first integration of Apple’s C1 modem, which has been in development for over a decade.

iFixit further examined the logic board and utilized a CT scanner to analyze the C1 modem, revealing it does not incorporate any Qualcomm technology.
