Lenovo has introduced two innovative laptop concepts at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, showcasing a foldable screen model and a solar-powered device. Both concepts are currently not available for commercial sale.
The foldable laptop features an 18-inch display that can be folded in half to create two separate screens. When fully collapsed, the device transforms into a tablet-like format, enhancing its versatility.
In addition to the foldable design, Lenovo presented the Yoga Solar PC concept, which includes a solar panel integrated into its lid. This model is designed to be relatively thin and light, weighing just over 2.6 pounds. The solar panel boasts a claimed conversion rate of 24%, achieved by optimizing the gridlines typically found on solar panels for better energy absorption.
Lenovo’s software demonstrated that the solar panel could generate around 7 volts when not in direct sunlight, increasing to 12 volts when facing the sun. While the solar panel does not provide enough power for continuous operation, it can extend battery life. For example, 20 minutes of direct sunlight could yield approximately one hour of video playback.
Despite its innovative features, the solar panel is primarily intended to supplement battery life rather than serve as a primary power source. Lenovo noted that the solar panels can also absorb ambient light, potentially offering users an additional hour of usage at the end of an eight-hour workday.
