Monster Hunter Wilds Faces Major Performance Challenges on Launch

Monster Hunter Wilds has launched to significant performance issues affecting players on both PC and consoles. Reports indicate that many users are experiencing crashes, low frame rates, and graphical glitches that detract from gameplay.

Players on Steam have expressed their frustration, noting that some character models appear as if they belong to an older generation of gaming, reminiscent of the Nintendo 64 era. The game has received a flood of negative reviews, resulting in a Mixed rating from over 16,000 users.

While the game attracted over a million concurrent players shortly after its release, many are struggling with performance problems. Issues range from blocky graphics to single-digit frame rates. Some users have attempted to resolve these issues by disabling frame generation or updating Nvidia’s DLSS technology, but results vary.

Capcom advises players to ensure their graphics card drivers and Windows versions are up to date. Console performance appears more stable but still suffers from stuttering frame rates and low-resolution textures. A preliminary analysis by Digital Foundry described the performance on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S as feeling undercooked.

Despite these challenges, the game’s concurrent player count on Steam has remained relatively stable, hovering around 700,000. There is hope that future updates will rectify these issues, similar to the improvements seen in Capcom’s other title, Dragon’s Dogma 2, since its launch.
