Doom of Icewind Dale is now available as an official expansion for Neverwinter Nights, a classic Dungeons & Dragons game that debuted in 2002. This expansion marks a significant addition to the game nearly 23 years after its initial release.
Developed by Luke Scull, who began his career as a modder for Neverwinter Nights, this expansion is authorized by Wizards of the Coast. Scull previously worked on the official expansion for Neverwinter Nights 2, Mysteries of Westgate, and has established himself as a fantasy author.
The storyline of Doom of Icewind Dale takes place approximately twenty years after the original campaign. Players will navigate a plot where their character, initially left for dead and stripped of memories, must reclaim their identity while uncovering a sinister conspiracy.
To access this expansion, players need the base game. Currently, Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition is available on sale, while Doom of Icewind Dale can be purchased on Steam for $10. The expansion offers around 10-15 hours of gameplay, allowing exploration of ten towns in Icewind Dale and other locations like Icewind Pass and the Dwarven Valley.
New monsters and original music have been added to enhance the gameplay experience. Both Neverwinter Nights and the new expansion are set in the Forgotten Realms, the same universe featured in the upcoming live-action Dungeons & Dragons series.
