New Windows 11 Transfer Tool May Simplify File Migration

A potential new transfer application for Windows 11 has been uncovered in a preview build, sparking interest among users. This tool could streamline the migration process by offering features like „Back up to this PC“ and „Transfer files to a new PC,“ eliminating the need for external storage or cloud services.

The application may require users to connect their old PC to the same Wi-Fi network, utilizing a wireless transfer mode. Its functionality appears similar to the existing Nearby Sharing feature, allowing for easy pairing between devices to initiate the transfer.

Once the transfer session begins, the app might recommend connecting to a power source, as the process could be time-consuming. However, it currently lacks visible controls or a clear overview of the files being transferred.

This migration tool is reportedly part of the Backup app in Windows 11, but Microsoft has yet to officially announce its development. The code remains hidden in the system, and there is no ongoing testing, leaving its future uncertain.

If implemented, this application could significantly ease the setup of new PCs, addressing a common concern among users who hesitate to upgrade due to file transfer challenges. The hope is that it will allow users to select specific files for transfer without incurring charges for larger files.
