Amazon Prime Video has unveiled the first trailer for its upcoming thriller Holland, starring Nicole Kidman. Directed by Mimi Cave, the film presents a darkly comedic yet unsettling narrative centered around suburban life.
Kidman portrays Nancy Vandergroot, a teacher and homemaker living with her husband, played by Matthew Macfadyen, and their son in Holland, Michigan. The seemingly perfect life takes a turn as Nancy and her colleague, played by Gael García Bernal, uncover disturbing secrets that challenge their perceptions of reality.
The screenplay for Holland has been in development for over a decade, having topped the 2013 blacklist. Originally, Naomi Watts and Bryan Cranston were attached to the project, which was later acquired by Amazon as part of its purchase of MGM Studios in 2022.
The film blends elements of Hitchcockian mystery with Lynchian satire, reminiscent of The Truman Show. It aims to explore the darker aspects of modern suburban life, following Cave’s previous work on the horror-comedy Fresh.
Holland features a strong supporting cast, including Rachel Sennott, Lennon Parham, Isaac Krasner, and Jeff Pope. The film is set to premiere at the South by Southwest Festival on March 9, 2025, before its release on Prime Video on March 27, 2025.
