Phase Shift Games has announced the upcoming launch of Widget’s Workshop, a new entry in its drop-style game series. The game is set to debut on BackerKit’s crowdfunding platform on March 13, 2025, as part of the Pocketopia program.
Widget’s Workshop combines card crafting and spatial set collection, providing a unique tabletop experience. Players will drop 80 custom-shaped, semi-transparent part cards onto the table, creating a randomized pile of components. Each turn, players use one finger to extract parts from the pile, aiming to collect matching pieces to build robots and golems.
The game’s design includes elements of strategy and chance, as parts can be hidden, partially obscured, or flipped within the pile. Players must gather specific parts, such as arms, legs, and a head or torso, to assemble their constructs. With over 1 million possible combinations, each constructed piece will have its own illustration and name.
Scoring in Widget’s Workshop is based on how well the attributes of the collected parts align, encouraging players to optimize their builds for maximum points. This game builds on the drop-style mechanics seen in previous titles like Dungeon Drop and Drop Drive, which randomize setup and promote physical interaction during gameplay.
Designed to be compact and portable, Widget’s Workshop is suitable for various play environments, aligning with the Pocketopia program’s focus on accessible and travel-friendly tabletop experiences.
