Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, has provided an update on the long-awaited game Everwild, developed by Rare. The game was first announced over five years ago during Microsoft’s X019 presentation, but its development has faced scrutiny due to a lack of updates and rumors of a reboot.
In a recent interview, Spencer mentioned that he visited Rare’s UK studio to assess the progress on Everwild. He expressed excitement about the game and noted that Microsoft is allowing developers the time they need to create quality titles.
Despite past concerns regarding Everwild, particularly following the departure of its creative director in 2020, Rare has appointed veteran designer Gregg Mayles to lead the project. Mayles has a history with successful titles such as Banjo-Kazooie and Viva Pinata.
While details about Everwild remain sparse, it has been described as a third-person adventure game infused with god game elements. The last trailer, released in July 2020, promised a unique experience set in a magical world.
Spencer’s comments come as Microsoft continues to develop a broad array of games, including titles like the Perfect Dark reboot and the next installment of Halo.
