Red Sonja Reboot Set for Release Following Rights Acquisition

Millennium Media’s highly anticipated Red Sonja reboot has received a significant update regarding its release. Signature Entertainment has acquired the UK and Irish distribution rights, paving the way for the film’s release later this year.

The film, which has been in post-production for two years, is based on the comic series by Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith. It draws inspiration from Robert E. Howard’s short story, The Shadow of the Vulture. The storyline follows Red Sonja, a barbarian huntress who unites a band of warriors against the villainous Dragan The Magnificent and his bride, Dark Annisia.

Matilda Lutz stars in the titular role, supported by a cast that includes Robert Sheehan, Wallis Day, and Rhona Mitra among others. Directed by M.J. Bassett, the screenplay is penned by Tasha Huo.

This reboot has been in development for nearly two decades, with previous directors including Bryan Singer and Joey Soloway. The original Red Sonja film, released in 1985, underperformed at the box office, grossing less than $7 million against a $17.9 million budget.
