Spotify Plans HiFi Audio Subscription for 2025

Spotify is set to introduce a new subscription add-on that offers high-fidelity audio streaming in 2025. The company aims to enhance its music streaming service with this „super fan“ feature, which will also include access to AI remixing tools and concert ticket purchasing options.

The anticipated launch follows years of speculation regarding Spotify HiFi, initially announced in 2021. Despite delays, recent reports suggest the service could roll out later this year under the Spotify Pro label. While specific pricing details remain unclear, a $6 add-on is being considered for U.S. customers, with variations for international markets.

Currently, Spotify’s audio quality peaks at 320kbps, significantly lower than competitors like Amazon and Apple, which offer higher bitrate options. For instance, Amazon Music’s Ultra-HD tracks can reach an average bitrate of 3,730kbps, while Apple Music provides a range up to 24-bit/192 kHz without additional charges.

Spotify’s existing subscription plans in the U.S. start at $5.99 for students and go up to $19.99 for family plans. The introduction of a higher-priced tier for lossless audio could pose challenges in attracting users, especially given the competitive landscape of music streaming.
