Spotify Plans HiFi Audio Tier Launch with New Features

Spotify is set to introduce its anticipated HiFi audio tier later this year as a $6 add-on to its existing Premium subscription. This new tier, named Music Pro, will enhance user experience with higher-quality audio and advanced remixing tools.

Reportedly, the Music Pro tier will cost $6 monthly in addition to the standard $12 Premium fee, with pricing varying by region. Users in less-developed markets may benefit from lower rates.

Spotify first announced plans for lossless audio streaming in 2017, and confirmed ongoing development in 2021. Despite multiple reports over the years regarding its release, the feature has yet to materialize. Bloomberg previously indicated that HiFi streaming might launch as a $5 add-on in 2024, but recent updates suggest that pricing and timelines remain subject to change based on licensing agreements.

New multi-year agreements with Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group have recently been established, which may facilitate the rollout of the HiFi tier.

In addition to lossless audio, the Music Pro tier will offer tools for mixing songs from different artists, utilizing generative AI technology. Subscribers may also gain access to concert presales, potentially securing better seating options.

Spotify plans to test the features of this new tier over the coming months, with a phased rollout of its tools and capabilities.
