Tekken 8 has reached a significant milestone, selling 3 million copies within a year of its release, according to Bandai Namco. This achievement comes at a quicker pace than its predecessor, Tekken 7, which took ten years to sell 12 million copies worldwide.
Initially launched in January 2024, Tekken 8 sold 2 million units within the first month. Since then, it has added another 1 million units over the past year.
In comparison to other fighting games, Mortal Kombat 1 has sold 5 million copies since its September 2023 release, while Street Fighter 6 has reached 4.4 million since its launch in June 2023. Despite its success, Tekken 8 still trails behind these competitors.
Additionally, Bandai Namco has announced that Anna Williams will be the next DLC character, available on March 31 for Character Year 2 Pass holders and April 3 for everyone else. The company plans to release a total of four DLC characters in the second year, along with new stages.
However, the game has faced some controversy. In December, Tekken 8’s producer, Katsuhiro Harada, addressed backlash regarding the sale of a premium DLC stage, which fans criticized as corporate greed. This incident has prompted Harada to reevaluate his approach to meet community expectations moving forward.
