TikTok is once again available for download in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in the United States. The app was removed from both platforms on January 19, 2025, due to a nationwide ban that briefly took effect.
Despite the app’s service being quickly restored after a promise from President Donald Trump not to enforce the ban, it remained unavailable for download in US app stores until now. Apple has reversed its initial decision following a letter from US Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Reports indicate that Trump previously instructed the Justice Department to delay enforcing the ban for 75 days. During this time, Apple did not provide immediate comments regarding the situation.
Google has also reinstated TikTok in its Play Store after previously advising Android users to sideload the app. The Justice Department assured Google that restoring access to TikTok would not violate any laws.
As for TikTok’s long-term future, uncertainty remains. Trump has expressed interest in striking a deal that would allow the app to continue operating in the US, potentially giving the government a stake in the company. Various investors and companies have proposed offers to acquire parts of TikTok, but the company has yet to indicate which proposals it is considering.
