Viktor Antonov, Influential Game Artist, Passes Away at 52

Viktor Antonov, renowned for his work on Half-Life 2 and Dishonored, has died at the age of 52. His contributions to the gaming industry have left a lasting impact, particularly through his visionary designs.

Antonov was instrumental in creating the iconic City 17 in Half-Life 2, a project that showcased his unique artistic vision. He later served as the visual design director for Dishonored, where he co-created the game’s atmospheric setting of Dunwall.

Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, Antonov moved to Paris before embarking on his career in video game development in the mid-1990s. He began at Xatrix Entertainment and quickly rose to prominence at Valve, where his creativity flourished.

Outside of gaming, Antonov co-authored animated films such as Renaissance and The Prodigies, and worked with the indie production company Darewise Entertainment.

His legacy continues to inspire many in the gaming community, highlighting the significant role of art in interactive entertainment.
