Volvo’s upcoming ES90 midsized luxury sedan will incorporate cutting-edge technology with a dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin supercomputer. This configuration aims to make the ES90 the most powerful car Volvo has produced, enhancing its core computing capacity significantly.
The ES90 will utilize Volvo’s Superset tech stack, which integrates all modules and functionalities for future vehicle models. The Nvidia system-on-a-chip enables the vehicle to perform 508 trillion operations per second (TOPS), facilitating advanced features such as AI-driven safety systems and efficient battery management.
This new computing power represents an eightfold increase in processing speed compared to the previous Nvidia Xavier chip used in earlier models. It allows Volvo to enhance its deep learning models, increasing the parameters from 40 million to 200 million.
Built on the SPA2 architecture, the ES90 will be the second vehicle to utilize the Superset platform, following the EX90. This modular engineering approach aims to improve vehicle safety and efficiency while enabling over-the-air software updates for ongoing enhancements.
